Influence of Furnish Characteristics on Strength Properties of Date Fiber Ceiling boards[Full-Text ] Chibudike H.O., Igwe C.C., Mgbachiuzo E., Chibidike E.C., and Adeyoju O.A.The objective of this study was to evaluate the density, water absorption, modulus of elasticity and rupture from static bending, and tensile strength of medium-density fiberboards manufactured using Date fiber virgin pulp. Chemo-thermo-mechanical pulping of the Date fibers furnished pulp samples which were further blended with waste papers obtained from newspaper vendors which were earlier soaked in water for 24 hours and pounded into waste paper paste. CMC was equally prepared and incorporated in the mixture as the binder in the research work. The panels’ mechanical properties were affected due to the fiber wall characteristics of the Date fiber virgin pulp and interaction with waste paper paste and CMC. Various samples of Medium Density Fiber/ ceiling boards were produced by varying the compositions of the furnished mixtures. To compare the properties of different board samples produced and predict their end use performance criteria, the boards were formed into sheets and tested for strength characteristics using the FIIRO Instron testometer. Testing was carried out at 20oC and 65% relative humidity; the board samples were conditioned in this atmosphere for about 3 ½ hours before testing.

Real-Time Anomalous Behavior Detection of Students in Examination Rooms Using Neural Networks and Gaussian Distribution[Full-Text ] Asma`a Al Ibrahim, Gibrael Abosamra, Mohamed DahabThe anomalous behavior is hard to be detected simultaneously in a complex scene such as detecting abnormal movements of examinees in examination rooms. Modeling activities of moving objects and classifying them as normal or anomalous is a major research problem in video analysis. In this paper, we make use of the neural networks and Gaussian distribution to help solve this problem by
building a prototype of a monitoring system that consists of three stages; face detection using haar cascade detector, suspicious state detection using a neural network and lastly anomaly detection based on the Gaussian distribution. The main idea is to decide on whether the student is in a suspicious state or not using a trained neural network and then decide that a student performs an anomalous behavior based on how many times he was found in a suspicious state in a defined time duration. The complete system has been tested on a proprietary data set achieving 97% accuracy with 3% false negative rate.

Simulink: An Efficient Method for Solving Differential Equations[Full-Text ] C. MabengaIn this paper, we present an efficient graphical method for solving differential equations known as Simulink. The method is fast, simple and offers us the opportunity to spend more time exploring the behaviour of the solutions rather than in solving the differential equation as it is often the case with analytical and numerical methods. The differential equation is represented by means of a model diagram which comprises of three sections namely: the input, computational and output sections. A convenient approach in which the model diagram is drawn using the differential equation parameters instead of their values is considered.

Escalation Cost Management in Building Projects[Full-Text ] Tamhankar P.G, Dr. Gupta A.K & Prof. Desai D. BHistorically construction projects have been inundated by cost and schedule overruns. In too many cases, the final project cost has been higher than the cost estimates prepared and released during initial planning, final design and estimation or even at the start of construction. Over the time span between project initiation, concept development and the completion of construction many factors may influence the final project costs. Organizations face a major challenge in controlling project budgets over the time span between project initiation and the completion of construction.
