Optimization of Land Use for Appropriate Stormwater Harvesting in an Institutional Environment[ ]

In recent times and in most places stormwater has been left to runoff uncaught. Much can be achieved if this stormwater is caught and stored, instead of allowing it to wreak havoc to land use in the area. A notable experience of such havoc was the 2012 Nigeria floods that cut across 30 of the 36 states of the country, and caused damage to lives, property and the environment with total worth of 2.6 trillion Naira [1]. This study was aimed at assessing and accessing the potentials in stormwater while seeking a way to curb the menace that can evolve from it.

Factors that influence banana supplied to the market in Muhanga Disitrict, Rwanda[ ]

Linking smallholder farmers to modern value chains is one of the rural development strategies promoted to address the challenge of smallholders’ integration in markets. However, smallholder prospect inclusion in modern value chains is still limited. This study examines factors that influence banana supplied to the market in Muhanga district, Rwanda. A multi-stage sampling design was used to select 178 households from seven banana producing Sectors in Muhanga district in South Province of Rwanda. A Heckman two stage selection model was used to estimate data collected through semi-structured questionnaires.

IMPACT OF BRAND EXPERIENCE ON CUSTOMER VALUE; ROLE OF CUSTOMER SATISFACTION[ ]

This study investigated the effects of Brand Experience on Customer Value and Customer Satisfaction and brand relationship quality and loyalty in the market. Validated measurements were identified from a literature review. The measurement model and the conceptual model depicting hypothesized relationships were evaluated using confirmatory factor analysis and a structural equation modeling, accordingly. Brand Experience traits had direct effects on both customer value and customer satisfaction which in turn influenced brand quality and loyalty. Moreover, how customers perceive product value depends on experience that may be at variance with current needs.

Primary Determinant in Quality Deterioration of Fish Seed in Captivity[ ]

This study was primarily undertaken to review the current status of fish seed production at freshwater sector of West Bengal, Bihar and Assam – three leading seed producing states of India (Figure 1) and its distribution range within the state and throughout the country (Chatterjee,N.R.,2016). Main emphasis of the work was to assess how far the current practices are following the principle objectives of the technology i.e. production and supply of quality seed out of captive breeding. With the immediate standardization of the technology, West Bengal farmers adopted the technology of their own (in 98% cases) and started practicing the technology, initially through hapa breeding and afterwards through the establishment of Chinese hatchery.

A Modified Bioeconomic Model for Prey-Predator Interaction in Polluted Environment with Constant Harvesting: Reserve Zones and Taxation as Combine Control Strategy[ ]

A dynamical system of bioeconomic model for Prey-Predator interaction in a polluted surrounding with constant harvesting is proposed. The paper studied the dynamics of a fishery resource system in an aquatic environment that consists of two zones, a free fishing zone and a reserve zone where fishing is strictly prohibited. To protect fishery resource from extinction and over exploitation, taxation and creation of reserve zones are considered as combine control strategy in the proposed model. Interior equilibrium point is analysed alongside its local stability using linearization method and Routh-Hurwitz criteria for the proposed model. Optimal harvesting policy is formulated and solved with the help of Pontryagin’s maximum principle. The numerical experiments illustrated confirm the theoretical results of the proposed model.

Development of Fully Automatic Plant Watering System[ ]

The need for this project emerges from the fact that India is a country that strongly relies on the agriculture sector and farming is one of the major occupation of a large population of the country. The cultivation of almost every crop grown in the country requires timely and well calculated watering. Not only the farm-based crops require timely watering but also our household plants need to be fed water at the right time on a regular basis for their proper and expected growth. Many of us face a lot of trouble in taking care of our plants, like their timely watering is a time-consuming issue and sometimes it also happens that we forget to water them.

Bcl-2:Beclin1 Complex and Bh3 Mimetics[ ]

Autophagy is a complex, physiological process responsible for degradation and recycle of cellular components, thus ensuring cell survival during stress conditions. But during high and prolonged stress, it enhances autophagic cell death. Apoptosis is another, yet primary, programmed cell death in which the caspases execute cell death. Cancer is an uncontrolled growth of cells, involving metastasis and angiogenesis and is devoid of the mechanism of autophagy and apoptosis. Bcl-2 is an anti-apoptotic protein, known to regulate both apoptosis and autophagy. It binds to Bax/Bak (pro-apoptotic proteins), thereby downregulate their function and prevent apoptosis. Similarly, it interacts with Beclin1 (an autophagic protein), forming Bcl-2:Beclin1 complex and thereby inactivating autophagy. Since this interaction with Beclin1 is via BH3-only domain, the researchers have focused on the development of BH3 mimetics, inorder to design better chemotherapeutics for cancer treatment.

The Hidden Mystery behind the Role of Teacher in the Student Learning[ ]

Teacher’s role in a learner’s education is prominent. This study explores the dimensions of obedience of the learner, authority of the teacher and repercussions of a system where obedience is a primary factor in learning. Consider a scenario of the classroom where the students are obedient to their teacher and all rules are being followed. Does that mean the learning in that classroom is optimal? On the contrary, does a classroom which functions without the authority of teacher indicates there is no learning happening?

Risk Anomaly Exploration in Indian Stock Market[ ]

The traditional theories tell us that high returns are associated with high degree of risk. This paper shows that in certain conditions, a portfolio of low-risk stocks can outperform the portfolio of high-risk stocks, a phenomenon known as ‘risk-based anomaly.’ The phenomenon has comprehensively studied in the US and a few other countries in the last few years; but not in emerging market, particularly India. In light of the fact, the paper focuses on testing the risk anomaly in the Indian Equity market over an eleven-year period (July 2007 – December 2017) with continuous monthly iterations using the low volatility portfolio strategy. The research provides empirical evidence to the existence of risk anomaly in the Indian equity market where the low volatility portfolio returns absolutely outperformed the high volatility portfolios as well as the market returns as a whole. In addition to that, this paper also tries to explain the behavioural aspects of investors linked to the anomaly of risk in the market.

Detection and Controlling of Suspecious Behaviour in the Examination Hall[ ]

Within the examination hall, in general the eye gaze and the orientation of the head of the examinee provide us clue to the suspicious behaviors. Nowadays, most of the examinations are held within smart class rooms so that cheating activities can be monitored centrally and remotely. But most of the suspicious behaviors' monitoring procedures are manual. In this study, we proposed a smart system which can autonomously detect and track examinee’s eye gaze and head orientation to robustly detect their cheating activities. With the help of the webcam installed within each of the smart devices placed on each of the examination desk, initially, real time video is captured during examination period. Then the video is analyzed to study the examinee’s psychology regarding to the illegal approaches to build a knowledgebase of our system. Recently, we conducted experiments using our smart system within the examination hall under controlled environment to validate its effectiveness of our system.
