Meteorological drought in Batna region and its consequence on biodiversity (case of Cedrus atlantica Manetti)[Full-Text ] Mouhli N., Nedjahi A., Laouer H., Riahi W.Our work is based on the study of meteorological drought in the region of Batna (Algeria) over a period of forty years (1975 to 2014) by using climate data of the National Meteorological Office. In this purpose, Quantification of changes in precipitation at different time scales is determined by applying the standardized precipitation index (SPI) adopted by the World Meteorological Office in 2009. The results demonstrate significantly the presence of several drought periods in duration and severity on the chronology of the used data. On the other hand, Batna region has experienced a warming tendency since 1992. The longest period of drought is from 1998 to 2002 and the most severe years are 1983, 1990, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1999 and 2002. Analysis of this phenomenon is complementary to other previous studies on the decline of Atlas cedar which is an anisohydric species adapted to episodic droughts when are not prolonged, especially if it is associated with strong heat. The approach used is original; it reinforces the idea that the decline of Atlas cedar is directly dependent on prolonged drought.

SEM-EDS Analysis of Portland Cement and Sugarcane Bagasse Ash Collected from Different Boilers of Sugar Industry[Full-Text ] Chidanand Patil, P.B.Kalburgi, M.B.Patil, K.B.PrakashWhen sugar cane is crushed in the milling plants of the sugar factories for extracting its juice, the fibrous residue left over after the extraction of juice is known as bagasse. Bagasse is a mixture of hard fibre, with soft and smooth parenchymatous (pith) tissue, having hygroscopicity, soil, wax, sugar etc. When bagasse is used as fuel in the combustion boiler of cogeneration plant under controlled burning, a reactive amorphous silica, known as sugarcane bagasse ash (SBA) is formed. In the present study, micro structural observations and elemental analysis of Portland cement (OPC) and sugarcane bagasse ashes collected from four different sugar factories are carried out. Out of these four factories, three are located in the region of north Karnataka state (Chikodi, Vijayapur, M.K.Hubli) and one in Maharashtra state (Ichalakaranji) are studied. These ashes are represented as BA-C (Chikodi), BA-V (Vijayapur), BA-M (M.K.Hubli) and BA-I (Ichalakaranji). The microstructural observations were made using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and elemental compositions were analyzed by Energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). As indicated by SEM results, the OPC and all the sugarcane bagasse ashes presents different microstructure. On the other hand EDS map shows calcium as predominate element in OPC and silicium in all the bagasse ashes.

Improving the Judicial System of Pakistan: A Probe[Full-Text ] Muhammad Irshad IjazJudicial system plays a crucial role in creating peace and harmony in the society. The history of legal system of Pakistan can be traced back in subcontinent from different episodes of Hindus, Muslim and English periods. Justice is a fundamental right of every citizen. Articles 10 A & 25(1) of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973 speaks about the ‘right to fair trial’ and ‘equality of citizens’. 5th and 14th amendment of the U.S. Constitution has settled rules regarding ‘due process of law’ which throws lights on judicial system. Article 175(1) is about the establishment of higher judiciary as well as other lower courts constituted by law. Insurmountable backlogs of cases have enormous obstructions in the way of access to swift justice. Moreover these injustices and appalling issues contributed to inadequacy, inaccessibility and inefficiency of our justice system which have irreparable damages on the society. Islam is the leading religion of the world which provides various solutions to the justice system by means of its higher laws; the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). The aim of my paper is to identify the core issues, causes and their remedies to improve the judicial system which will make the justice accessible, affordable and equitable to all and sundry at their door steps. Without them, we cannot compete with new challenges faced by judiciary. We cannot rule out the role of judicial officers in adjudicating justice in the society. We can improve our legal system by means of new developments and recommendations of law commissions and judiciary.

Plastic Money security concerns amongst customers in Zimbabwe’s retail sector[Full-Text ] Maceline Nyatsambo Plastic money offers Zimbabweans an alternative to cash as they face a crippling cash shortage in the economy. Globally most economies run on predominantly cashless basis. This study explored the security concerns amongst consumers as they use plastic money and the influence of demographic factors on security concerns when transacting with plastic money. The exploratory study was conducted in Harare, responses were drawn from a randomly selected sample of 300 customers of major retail chains in the CBD of Harare. Findings suggest that the ATM and Debit card is most popular with consumers in Zimbabwe. Consumers are most worried about security of information risk rather than physical security risk. Most consumers use plastic money to buy grocery items .Chi-square tests proved that there was an association between gender and usage of plastic money. Since p-value=o.oo1<0.05.Males use plastic money more often than females. Females are more afraid that their PIN number could be disclosed to other users at the point of sale than males(p- value= 0.022).Those aged between 35 -45 years old feared for cloning of their cards by computer savvy fraudsters than all the other age groups(P value 0.000). Convenience and security were seen as the major reasons for using plastic money. High bank charges ,and system or card failure during transactions were key problems when using plastic money.

IMPLEMENTING TV WHITE SPACE INDOORs with Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) using different modulation schemes[Full-Text ] Uchenwa N. Ujam, Frank Yue Gao, Gokop L. Goteng, Greg. N. OnohThe extent at which Indoor broadband can be enhanced using Wi-Fi in Television White Space (TVWS) is examined at the third floor of the Engineering Building, Queen Mary University of London, (QMUL). QMUL is at the latitude 51.52410N and Longitude 0.04040W, East London, United Kingdom (UK). We implemented the OFDM model of wireless communication with three types of modulation schemes. Performance metrics such as latency, Bit Error Rate (BER), throughput and signal-to-noise ratio have been analysed using TV channel 49 which is Rayleigh fading channel. OFDM utilises less bandwidth while achieving good spectral efficiency. The project also compared different modulation schemes on the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM). We compared the binary phase-shift-keying (BPSK), Quadrature phase-shift-keying (QPSK) and 16-Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM). At the end, the 16-QAM demonstrated more efficient exploitation of TVWS for indoor Wi-Fi applications with more favourable characteristics such as extended coverage and almost-homogeneous data distributions. The work estimated the average downlink and uplink capacity of an indoor TVWS network. No other work known to the authors has thought it necessary to compare the variations in the downlink and the uplink signal propagation through indoor measurements.

Meteorological Drought Analysis by Different Meth-ods in Helmand River Basin, Afghanistan[Full-Text ] Mohammad Musa Alami, Sardar Wali Din and Gokmen TayfurThis study evaluates drought in Lashkargah, Farah, Adraskan, and Gardandiwal stations in Helmand River Basin (HRB) in Afghanistan. Thirty seven years of monthly recorded precipitation data from 1979 to 2015 is employed for this purpose. The Standardized Precipitation Index (Normal-SPI, Log-SPI, and Gamma-SPI), Percent of Normal (PN), and Deciles were used as the drought indexes. All methods are applied to annual long term precipitation data set. Results show that all DI methods provide almost the same results for the stations. The log-SPI and gamma-SPI predict extreme drought conditions, whereas, the normal-SPI determines wet and less drought conditions. The results emphasize that the PN method predicts more moderate drought years in comparison with SPI method, however, Deciles method shows longer period of extreme and severe drought than other methods. As a result, the five methods indicate various drought intensities in 1985, 1987, 1994, 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004 with a peak extreme drought in 2001 for the all four stations. Therefore, extreme drought conditions happened in 2001 in all stations confirm to the recorded drought reports for the same region. It is noted that normal-SPI and PN indicated less and moderate drought condition while the log-SPI, gamma-SPI, and Deciles captured the historical extreme and severe drought periods successfully, thus, these three methods are recommended to be applied to this region as drought assessment tools.

Design and Fabrication of Drilling Cum Cutting Machine[Full-Text ] Rajendra KelwaIn an industry a considerable portion of investment is being made for machinery installation. So in this project I have a proposed a machine which can perform operations like drilling, cutting some lathe operations at different working centers simultaneously which implies that industrialist have not to pay for machine performing above tasks individually for operating operation simultaneously. This project presents the concept of Multi-Function Operating Machine mainly carried out for production based industries. I have developed a conceptual model of a machine which would be capable of performing different operations simultaneously and is also economically efficient. On the main shaft a bevel gear system is used for power transmission at two locations. These bevel gears are used to transmit motion in the radial direction and drives drilling centre. By using scotch yoke mechanism perform cutting operation. This model facilitates to complete two operations simultaneously with a single power source.

From Chaos of Preception to Cognition of Architecture (Part I): Determinacy and Unpredictability[Full-Text ] Sanaz EftekharzadehThe three previous stages guide the designer in the creation and embodiment of the building. From here on, the characteristics and qualities of this object are considered in direct relation to human perception and behavior. As if until now, the object was an embryo in production and now, the life is blown in it. These are the qualities of natural systems which the architect must account for while creating the work so that the architecture becomes a chaotic system worthy of the presence of human and his chaotic mind. As was mentioned in the discussion of formation and recognition of the pattern, the two simultaneous and seemingly contradictory characteristics of determinacy and unpredictability which are among the most important specialized traits of chaotic systems account for the sense of pleasure and beauty in natural phenomena and other perceptual states of human institution also stem from the change in the proportion of these two characteristics. The determinacy trait applies to scales of environment on which surrounds human and go beyond his control and unpredictability is attributed to the spaces and phenomena which can be perceptually controlled by human. Take note that here the definition of human scale, besides physical measurements, depends entirely on the human mental pattern of his proportions to the world. The more chaotic, natural, and thus suitable for humankind a system, the more prominent and effective these two characteristics.

From Chaos of Preception to Cognition of Architecture (Part II): Creating and Destroying the Information[Full-Text ] Sanaz EftekharzadehUp to this point in the book, the author was trying to familiarize you with the way human mind and institution work by providing examples and reasoning and explanation and logic in the customary way so that you understand what you are after in creation of a work. Now, know that those who can master the process of perception and cognition and awareness are allowed to manipulate the people to guide then towards pure awareness and introduce a true innovation into the architecture beyond the limits of daily perception and beyond the cognition attained by the head eye, being aware of the fact that whatever we know to be true in the world is different from their actual truth, like a skillful surgeon who can, contrary to the ways of nature, reach into the depths of the human being to optimize his existence. This is a license only granted to the aware, responsible, and truth-seeking artists who would never rebel against the truth, their ideal is not pretention, and wouldn’t disparage the nature, the culture, the mental patterns, and the earthly human institution not even for a moment despite knowing the secret behind the veil of this worldly life

A Monte Carlo simulation of ethylene and &alpha - olefins polymerization rate and polymer yield with Ziegler- Natta catalysts using apparent kinetic constants of individual site types[Full-Text ] Seyed Mehdi Ghafelebashi Zarand, Sajjad Shahsavar, Mohammad Reza JozaghkarIn this study, the Monte Carlo simulation method was applied to ethylene co(polymerization) over Ziegler-Natta catalyst reported by Chen et al. The Monte Carlo simulation was similar to sum square error (SSE) model to prediction of stage II and III of polymerization. Both model had slightly deviation from experimental results for activation stage (stage I). The modeling results demonstrated that in homopolymerization, SSE was superior to predict polymerization rate in current stage while for copolymerization, Monte Carlo had preferable prediction. The Monte Carlo simulation approved the SSE results to determine role of each site in total polymerization rate and revealed that homopolymerization rate changed from site to site and order of center was different compared to copolymerization. The polymer yield was reduced by addition of hydrogen amount however there was no specific effect on uptake curve which was predicted by Monte Carlo simulation with good accuracy. In the case of copolymerization it was evolved that monomer chain length and monomer concentration influenced the rate of polymerization as rate of polymerization reduced from 1-hexene to 1-octene and increased when monomer concentration proliferate.

Development of a Digital Air Flow Regulator for Agro-Allied Processes[Full-Text ] Nnaemeka C. EzeanyaThe aim of this work is to develop a digital air flow regulator for agro allied processes. Microcontroller (MCU) based air flow regulators are needed in order to fulfill the rapidly changing electronics products specification, needed for both industrial and domestic applications. In this work, a microcontroller-based air flow regulator was developed. The flow regulator selects, varies, and displays air velocities within the range of 0.5 to 4.5 m/s. It was calibrated with a standard air anemometer of model (Luitron: AM-4206). The percentage error of instrumentation for the regulator, when tested at no load was determined as 13%. The air flow regulator when tested with different depths of corn showed that the velocities at the exit point of the corn layer decreased with increase in the layer depth of the corn. Also the velocities from both the flow regulator and the standard anemometer increased with increasing rotational speeds (rpm) of the fan.

Flare Radiation Mitigation Analysis of Onshore Oil & Gas Production & Refining Facility for a Low Cost De-Bottlenecking using Computer Aided Techniques[Full-Text ] Anchal Soni and Nitesh ParmarFlares are an attempt to deliberately burn the flammable safety relief and/or process vents from a plant. The burning of gas should be complete so that it reduces pollution and helps to maintain a cleaner atmosphere. Gases flared in the stacks are excess process gases, which cannot be vented directly into the atmosphere. These gases are formed in various chemical process hence form a stream of mixture of gases which is burnt in the Flare System. The paper will discuss various mitigation approaches for about 30% increase in 6.0 MMTPA refinery, which intends a low cost de-bottlenecking in its existing facilities to enhance its current capacity to 7.8 MMTPA. The analysis is done by analysing different radiation Isopleths (Contours) generated using Flaresim Software Application and following API-521 for Pressure-relieving and Depressuring Systems.

Discrete element simulation of Slumping mode of granular particles and their heat transfer in a rotating cylinder[Full-Text ] S.H.OLEENAA discrete element method (DEM) study is conducted to investigate the mixing and heat-transfer characteristics of spherical particles under slipping mode and flow regimes of a rotating tumbler. In this paper, heat transfer in rotating drums operated in a slipping mode is assessed. The focus is on direct heating operations at low to medium temperatures, where thermal radiation is unimportant. It is shown that heat transfer from the covered wall to the particle bed is the dominant mechanism in supplying heat to the bed. . If heat is supplied to the boundaries of the particle bed rapidly, and macroscopic particle mixing is rapid, then heat transfer within the bed may be controlled by either or both of particle –wall heat transfer and heat conduction within individual particles depending upon the physical properties of particles. Although theoretical analyses are principally used in this work. This paper addresses heat conduction in granular systems under slumping mode in a rotating cylinder. The influence of material properties on the contact heat transfer coefficient between the covered wall surface and the solid bed was investigated.

Identifying the Relationship between ITP Personality Constructs and Bullying Among Secondary Students[Full-Text ] Isabel M. H. K. HonIdentifying which constructs of a commonly used personality questionnaire are significant in bullying behaviour has the potential to prevent bullying by engaging potential bullies in preventive prosocial activities. This case study utilises secondary school students of a school in Malaysia as respondents to investigate the bullying phenomenon and its association with constructs in a personality questionnaire used for identifying career paths and unexpectedly found that the positive constructs of structure and resilience are significantly linked to bullying behaviours. More studies need to be done to confirm this finding and to understand why positive personality constructs can become predatory in nature.
