Design of LPG Pressure Vessel-A case study of Aboabo Community in the southern part of Ghana, West-Africa[Full-Text ]

The paper entails design of a pressure vessel to store liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). The design was based on a survey conducted in Aboabo Number 2 community. Data obtained from the survey and Ghana Statistical Service were used in the design. In the design, fatigue life of the vessel, static loading and the environment were considered to ensure safe and clean environment. Leak before frac-ture criterion was employed in the design to guard against catastrophic failure in case of crack in the vessel. The bending moments and shear forces of the vessel were considered to determine the position of coalescence of the vessel components at 0.542m and 6.48m. Based on the shear stress value of 6.321 MPa, 1016 electrode was used for the colescence. The vessel can withstand 2.47 x10 7 cycles of cyclic loading before failure occurs.

Despite the huge potential of the area, existing traditional farming practice is not in harmony with the needs and requirements of developing a productive and sustainable agriculture in Ethiopia. The food security situation has continued to deteriorate because of various factors including shortage of rain fall, high population growth, deforestation, soil degradation, pest out break and other related factors are threatening food security situation of the area. Although the initiation of farmer’s traditional spate irrigation practice is appreciated, it is not in a position to provide sustainable supply source and effective utilization of water. Therefore, the development of Gondoro SSIP diversion irrigation is expected to contribute towards alleviating these problems thereby increasing food supply and income source to the community and also at local and regional levels.
