COMPARISON THE PERFORMANCE OF MODIFIED BITUMEN AND MODIFIED BITUMEN WITH VARYING PERCENTAGE OF RAIN TREE NUTS & SEEDS[Full-Text ]
Shreyas M G, Harisha K M, Kartik Angadi, Naveen, Ravi Kumar RThe surface layer is made of hot-mix asphalt (HMA) (also called bituminous concrete). The material for the base course is typically unsterilized aggregates. The aggregate base could also be stabilized with Bitumen, Portland cement, or another stabilizing agent. The sub-base is mostly a local aggregate material. Also, the top of the subgrade is sometimes stabilized with either cement or lime. Unlike rigid pavement, when the traffic load is applied on top of the surface layer a localized deformation occurs under the load, while the load is distributed. It can be seen that the load is distributed on a small area at the surface. As the depth increases, the same load is distributed over a larger area. Therefore, the highest stress occurs at the surface and the stress decreases as the depth increases.

M-SAND, An Alternative To The River Sand In Construction Technology[Full-Text ]
SACHIN KUMARS, ROSHAN S KOTIANA few alternatives have come up for the industry to bank on of which manufactured sand or M-sand, as it is called, is found to be the most suitable one to replace river sand. M-sand has caught the attention of the construction industry and environmentalists alike for its quality and the minimum damages it causes to nature. Usage of M-Sand can drastically reduce the cost since like river sand, it does not contain impurities and wastages is nil since it is made with modern technology and machinery. Once the M-sand becomes more popular in the construction industry, the demand for river sand and illegal sand mining would come down, A well processed manufactured sand as partial or full replacement to river sand is the need of the hour as a long term solution in Indian concrete industry until other suitable alternative fine aggregate are developed. In the present study, a comparison of the Compressive strengths of River Sand and M-sand is done with the hundred percent replacement of river sand by M sand.

Performance of concrete with chemical admixtures cured in cold condition[Full-Text ]
Avijit H Ghosh, Dr. B.B. Das, Neha S NCold weather concreting requires an understanding of various factors that affect concrete properties like setting time, strength, thermal cracking etc. The concrete cured in cold weather doesn’t gain early strength and lead to improper setting and uneven strength gain due to the freezing of the water mixed with the cement. Hence there are many strength related problems faced at site due to cold weather particularly in parts of north India where temperature reaches below freezing point of water during winter season. This paper provides a comparative study between concrete cured in controlled and cold temperature (-5°C). The mixes used contain varying amount of accelerators, super plasticizers and air entraining admixture. The results for compression strength show that the concrete mix with higher dosage of admixture and rapid chloride penetration test showed low permeability.

SMART TRANSPORT SYSTEM SIGNALLING SENSOR SYSTEM NEAR HAIRPIN BENDs[Full-Text ]
Avinash S Shetty, Bhavish Bhat P B, Ramesha Karantha, Srinivasa Hebbar B R, RAVIKUMAR ROften modern cars have a collision avoidance system built into them known as Pre-Crash system, or Collision Mitigation system, Forward collision warning system in order to reduce the severity of a collision. But majority of vehicles on the road, especially heavy motor vehicles lack in such a system. In this paper, the implementation of the Collision Avoidance System is aimed to reduce the risks of collisions at the hairpin bend on a Hilly track, Ghats or other zero visibility turns. The proposed system contains a set of ultrasonic sensors, warning lights combined with a convex mirror is installed by the side of the road. It uses four ultra sonic sensors, which are placed on either side of the hairpin bend. The sensors are mutually exclusive and are connected by wires. The priority algorithm intelligently controls the movement of the vehicles at the hairpin bend based on the sensors values giving appropriate warnings on detection. For different conditions appropriate warning LED is triggered thereby prioritizing the vehicles movement. In case of a system breakdown a caution LED is triggered also sending a signal to notify the maintenance department about the same.

Study on Methods of Precast Systems for Indian Construction Industry[Full-Text ]
Raja Bhushan Kumar Mogadala, Dr. C. RajasekaranHousing crisis is one of the major issue India facing today. In India, urban housing shortage is estimated at nearly 18.28 million households in 2012. India, a developing country, is also facing a huge housing demand of more than 60 million housing units. By 2022, this is expected to reach 110 million. The Cast In-situ Construction technology cannot meet this huge demand at the fast pace required. Precast technology is one such move which is expected to enhance the productivity of the construction process, thereby, optimizing the requirement of resources on the site, reducing waste generation and resulting in a faster delivery of the projects. This paper tries to answer the question “How does one decides whether to go for prefabrication adjacent to worksite or prefabrication in a factory?” and the challenges facing by the precast technology in India.
